![]() Only the captain in this version can score a special shot, and it takes a while to charge it up, leaving the captain vulnerable. Every character has a unique special shot that, if connected, guarantees 2 goals, but hitting these shots is quite the challenge, especially if you are playing against other human players. One of my favorite things about Super Mario Strikers are the special shots. Super Mario Strikers even has special abilities and items that create even more chaos on the field, and it is honestly a riot every single time, especially with four players. Hard checks into the electric fence will have characters screaming in pain, hits and slide tackles have a great thud about them, and the passing and shooting is quite intuitive for a Super Mario sports game. Gameplay is an absolute riot, as the full-contact, Mario-branded soccer/football title continually creates highlight moments. When controls are that easy to understand, that deserves massive praise, especially when they can be deep. As a dad now, my children have been playing with me, and they picked it up instantly. The game benefits tremendously from being the first of the series and Next Level Games keeping the controls simple enough for any casual to pick up and play with no problem. What surprised me upon returning to Super Mario Strikers is how well it controls. The animations for each character’s special abilities, particularly, are still a joy to see and are really well animated. To be honest, the GameCube’s graphics across the board still hold up really well, and although it is a bit grainy, the game still runs incredibly well and looks lovely in the process. Super Mario Strikers came out in 2005 on the Nintendo GameCube, so this is a 17-year-old title with 17-year-old visuals. Its down points come to its heaviness that may tire players after a couple of hours of play and its battery life. One thing to get out of the way immediately are the graphics. ![]() Its strong points are its convenience, and you can see a better look around the screen. The default, handheld mode, is probably average at best when using it to play the game. They are not the best controller to use if you want to take on this game competitively, since their small size can lead to cramped hands. Single Joy-Cons are best when playing local or online multiplayer with friends only. Single Joy Cons are Better for Multiplayer Only ![]() The only drawback of this controller setup is the playability time because of its battery and the smallness of the grip and buttons that will lead to straining your hand. It allows you to play on a large screen as well if needed! I dont mind the opposing CPU being good, but if you want to do the harder cups bring a friend because your team is selling hard. The CPU stands there and doesnt do much but (sometimes) get items unless I switch to that character. Dual-Controller Grip is Easy to Useĭual-Controller Grip provides a better experience for players than using other Joy Controller setups, as they need some other movement and may delay the desired action, like Dodging for example. It feels like youre up against four enemies and three traitors. Additionally, the buttons' size makes them easier to press. It provides a grip that is better than the Joy Controllers, making it easier for you to control your characters. Pro Controller is probably the best one you can use for the game. List of Controls Best Controllers to Use Pro Controller is the Most Comfortable to Use You can connect a Pro Controller via bluetooth or USB cord through the Switch Dock. Pro Controllers are also one of the compatible controllers for the game. It will allow you to play the game anywhere as well, as long as the battery isn't dead yet. You can also connect the Joy Controllers to the Switch directly to play in Handheld Mode. You can add more Joy-Con up to four pairs or up to 8 if you're using them individually. Joy-Cons, both single-horizontal and dual-controller grips, are compatible controllers for Mario Strikers: Battle League. Compatible Controllers Joy Controllers (Single and Dual) ![]()
